19 February 2019 (Tue), 6:30-8:00 PM
At Saga LT 1 (updated venue)
Theophilus Kwek holds an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from Oxford University, and is a researcher in public policy and migration issues. He has written about migration policy for IRIN, Open Migration, The Diplomat, South China Morning Post, and other platforms. Most recently, he helped to organize the Global Migrant Festival.
We first survey the history of forced migration in Southeast Asia, and how Singapore’s position on asylum (as well as its humanitarian infrastructure) has developed over the years. We then examine some of the official narratives surrounding the ongoing Rohingya crisis, and discuss possible policy alternatives at state and local levels.
